Outside Sandwiches

Peanut butter on the porch swing

Jam dripping down my sleeve

Ants are marching for the crust crumbs

Summer air so hard to breathe

Clouds like cotton, soft and lazy

Lemonade in paper cups

Grass stains on my favorite T-shirt

Eating slow, the sun comes up

No roof above our picnic

knitclouds tug the sky in closer;

button-up breeze,

cocoa in pockets,

footsteps hush like library whispers.

Scarves spin slow-motion fireworks,

leaves rehearse their yellow yawns,

and every porch light remembers

the small warm name of home.
